Connor turned 3 on March 7th and we had his birthday party on March 12th. Connor has loved to "sword fight" for almost an entire year now, so we had a pirate themed birthday party!
We had pirate ships (hotdogs), fish and chips (goldfish and potato chips), shells and cheese, cannon balls (black olives), sea cucumber (cucumber slices), crab legs (carrot sticks), pirate jewels (fresh fruit), and gold coins (gold sprayed oreos) for our food spread. We had rum (sweet tea), pirate punch, and sea water (water) to drink. My mom and I made a pirate ship cake. I think it turned out pretty cute, if I must say so myself.
I made a captain hook ring toss for the kids to play with. When I tried playing it, I only hooked 2 of the 5 rings. Some of the kids were better at it than I was! I put sand in our water table and buried treasure in it. The kids sifted through the sand and whatever they found, they got to keep. I found these cute little boxes and painted them brown. The kids decorated their "treasure chests" with jewels. I wasn't exactly sure how they were going to respond to this activity, but it seemed like everyone enjoyed decorating their own treasure chest. It was fun seeing them get creative. I also set up a tattoo parlor, which ended up not turning out so well. The tattoos were duds and didn't stay on :( Oh well! The kids were all given a foam sword and hook and they all got into it. It was fun seeing them play with each other.
After we played and ate, the birthday boy opened his presents. He was so spoiled with clothes, games, arts and crafts supplies, and PAW Patrol stuff. He kept wanting to play and enjoy each present as he opened it. Unfortunately, he can't do that at a birthday party, so we had to keep encouraging him to keep going and finish opening gifts. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our big boy!
Here are pictures from his party.
He had his well check-up on March 8th. He's still a little fella. Only 29 pounds (21st percentile) and 35 1/2 inches (9th percentile). His BMI is 57% so at least he's proportional. He's starting to wear 3T clothes, which most are a little big but that just gives him room to grow. He's in size 2T shorts and I have to roll the waist down just so they don't fall off of him. The kid has zero fat on him haha!
At his checkup, the nurse asked him several questions and one was if he could draw a circle. I didn't think he could, but he totally did it! Ever since, he's been into coloring and drawing circles. He tends to color with black and blue the most, so a lot of his artwork around the house is very dark. He still loves to ride his "red bicycle" and play basketball on the back porch. His favorite hang out spots are the library and the "airplane park" (Runway Park). We visit the park probably once a week and we go to Musical Jamboree almost every Monday at the library. Sometimes he participates and other times he would rather sit on my lap. But, it gets him out there with other kids.
We have signed him up for 3K beginning in September. He will be going every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-12. I am so excited to have him around other kids and adults. We spend a little too much time together these days, and I think it will be great for him.
He's still doing great with using the potty. He still has the occasional accident (mainly in the morning when he doesn't go right when he wakes up and plays with Maddie instead), but they are very rare. I'm so proud of him and hope this continues for when his little brother arrives, but I'm also prepared for regression since it is common.
He is the sweetest little boy... as long as you are doing what he wants to do. Most of the time, what he wants to do is reasonable. But there are those times when what he wants to do is not so reasonable, and he gives us a little bit of lip. He responds pretty well with time-out. At home, that's on the rug for 3 minutes (because he's now 3 years old) and he cannot stand it. He usually straightens up... keyword -- usually.
He's just a fun, loving 3 year old boy and I couldn't imagine life without him.
